Often the perpetrator is a heterosexual male who seeks to enhance his status among male peers by taunting, humiliating, and controlling his victim. A former prisoner, T.J. Parsell, is the director. With men there’s an added suspicion that a victim didn’t fight because they were weak or that they must’ve enjoyed it – that they’re gay. They may think that because of their associations with the gay community, they deserved what happened.
Your consistent reassurance that you do not accept homophobic biases and cultural myths about rape and that you will discourage such biases held by others will help to facilitate his recovery.
On Friday, the Marshall Project posted two prison orientation videos – one for incoming female inmates, one for incoming male inmates – which feature veteran inmates advising newcomers on how to avoid being raped.
But Frank had started what we now call ‘textbook grooming’. I didn’t tell my parents about these gifts and the fact I kept it secret shows something inside me knew it wasn’t right. I think it would have prepared me better for what to expect.

Only, when I sought specialist therapy as a male sexual abuse survivor, I found all doors were closed to me because I was a man. So when guards started flirting with me, I thought, Oh my gosh, this really happens When I went there, I didn't think any of that stuff would have happened to me.
